Hongkong, 6th July, 1907.

I have the honour to invite Your Lordship's attention to the evidence given before the Commission which recently enquired into the existence of corruption in the Sanitary Department, concerning the Banking Accounts of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. T. Brett. The evidence will be found at pages 2995-3005 of the volumes forwarded in my Confidential Despatch of the 29th May. Mrs. Brett's Savings Bank Accounts will be found at page 2962 et sequentia and Mr. Brett's Banking Accounts at page 2861 et sequentia.

2. Inspector Brett's explanations to the Commission were so unsatisfactory that I caused a letter, copy enclosed, under date of the 3rd ultimo to be addressed to him, and I attach copy of his reply.
